We have just returned from a two week stay at the Regency Plaza ( sharm el sheikh ); and were so delighted to be back. Check in was smooth and luggage delivered to your room (we were on the 3rd floor building A);, porter very cheeky in refusing coins and asking for an English note for a tip. The rooms were ok, big, air con. But the stains on the bedcovers were not left by us!
The hotel in general seemed clean, indeed they were obsessed with mopping the reception floor (but look carefully at the condition of the cloths that the bar people clean down with);. The housekeeper seemed to linger outside the rooms for the most of the day (for a tip?); and we did have problems e.g. the pots weren?t washed, no face cloths, no towels left. The hot water was intermittent, so showering was divided between scalding or freezing.
The biggest problem to us was the food. It was awful- really bland and of poor quality. At meal times you are joined and dined by flies and other flying insects which were seen to crawl over the uncovered food.
At breakfast you could ask to have an omelette cooked, but the cooker was never cleaned down and each morning the egg splashes just got thicker. No muesli or yoghurts but plenty of fruit and goats? Milk
The menu was the same every day, Chicken, beef or fish, sauted veg, mashed potato, rice.
They did have chips at every meal so if you are lucky you could survive on chip butties!
The salad was not chilled and had the odd fly as things weren?t covered, hot food was usually warm, deserts looked a little better with plenty of choice but again there was the odd fly paddling in the gateaux or drowning in the 'cream' what a way to go mmmmm, thank god we were there only for 2 weeks. I'm afraid the wearing of a chef's hat does not automatically make one a competent chef.
70% of people we met were ill with diahorrea and very bad stomach cramps, so take loads of diacalm, imodium etc.
We felt pressurized to buy a bottle of wine at one meal as the waiters use the ?not understand? get out clause when you try to refuse.
The all inclusive menu was poor, no ice creams (although you could buy them at ?1-20, so if you are taking children you will need plenty of spending money); no wine, spirits were just whiskey, brandy, vodka, gin (no Malibu, baileys etc); although the mixers were named brands (coca cola etc);
As far as the ?entertainment? we had the same singer for 14 nights ?singing? (I use the term loosely); the same songs in the same order, we must say I?ve heard better on x factor rejects.
Pools are ok and the pool attendants were helpful the animation team do their best to get you in the water for volleyball, water gym etc!. But it?s the same routine every single day and same music at the same time.
We felt that the British people were classed second rate at this hotel.
We didn?t like the staff who hounded for tips. We were wound up by people trying to sell boat trips, camel rides, bottled sand, beauty treatments and henna tattoos every single day. When you are trying to relax by the pool you would have to try and remain polite to these people, who when you refused accused you of being lazy!!
We would urge any British people to reconsider going to this place I feel I need a holiday to get over this one.
We have not had a meal 5 days after seeing a cockroach crawling over the food. (There was a supermarket down the road and we survived on Digestive biscuits);
To describe this hotel as "five star all inclusive" borders on criminal deception, and were amazed that any British tour operator should offer it. We certainly would never again trust Hotels4u. In over 10 years of foreign holidays, we have never come across anywhere that comes even close to the dire experience we had at this hotel. We urge anyone who has booked here to change the booking. If you are still to book, DO NOT BOOK HERE - don't say you've not been warned.
