The Masai Mara game reserve is well known for its wildlife. If you, like us remember the documentaries from years ago with David Attenborough explaining the Wildebeast migration across the Mara River, then like us you will be expecting something exceptional.

Keekerok lodge is at the southern end of the reserve, situated next to a watering hole right on the migratory path, so you are in the centre of the action. Indeed from the Kiboko Bar (at the end of a raised walkway, leading away from the main 'lodge' area); you can sip your sundowners watching the live entertainment provided by the wildlife. You are not permitted to walk along this walkway at night though, at least not alone as whilst we were there a Cheetah had been spotted sitting in a tree above the path! Security will walk you to and from the bar as required.

The accommodation at Keekorok is in bungalows,
single storey blocks and in comfortable shaded chalets. Beds come with mosquito nets (very useful); and the rooms are wood panelled and tastefully decorated. Beware of the monkies around the lodge, as well as helping themselves to your food at lunch etc (there is a man employed to scare them away from the dining areas); they will break into your room if you leave windows open and steal your belongings. A rather amusing sign is in each chalet/bungalow as a warning to this effect.

In all, we thought Keekerok was by far the best accomodation we stayed in during our 7 night Safari. The food was superb, and there was plenty to keep us amused in the evenings after our evening game drive. The bar has a log fire, and this was the meeting point for the inevitable 'war stories' from the days drives. A fantastic experience.
