We booked a last minute holiday to Mauritius and stayed in the Hotel Elysium - this claims to be the island's first "boutique" hotel. The hotel itself is quite basic and the rooms are quite small, but the staff are very friendly, the decor is nice and there is a pool. Breakfast is included, and the rate when we went was about ?40 per room per night.
The weather in June can be very changeable - we had sun, cloud and rain. You cannot rely on being able to sunbathe all day.
We hired a car, which gave us the flexibility to explore other areas of the island. Be warned - although the island is small, it takes ages to get anywhere as there is no real motorway network and the speed limit is very low...40km in a lot of places.
Great snorkelling at Flic en Flac beach, and recommend taking a tour with a glass bottomed boat over the coral reef to see some really amazing fish.
Overall, a good holiday, but a week was enough.
Probably better to go to Mauritus is budget is not an issue and you can stay in one of the top hotels....
