It was such a lovely time, weird but authentic Vietnam experience. We started our trip on an O/N train from Hanoi to Lao Chai. It was the sleeping train with some 4 berths in a department, a/c and clean though it is a little back-ward. Our very first day in Sapa marked with a colorful market and the stunning panorama of Cat Cat. I and my wife came to the market with a tour guide whose knowledge about interesting Black Hmong, Red Zao is infectious. Our hotel was cozy and the staff was quite friendly. The next day we travel up then down hill, crossing the Red river to reach the market of Pha long. The market is the most prominent weekly event according to the guide and what we saw there is the colorfulness of dress and clothes. Flower Hmong tribe occupied almost the market. We were surprised by the very primitive trading way here. The selling items was some vegetable, chili, tofu...We proceeded uphill to the region named Cao Son where the cloud covered all mountains and we saw nothing until the dawn. We wake up in the morning with the sound of cocks and birds to enjoy a very soft walk to the village of Ta Thang. The village itself astonished me by the architecture of earth-walled houses and a basic life condition. However, the local villager was really curious but shy. We took on a sampans downstream Chay river. That was the peaceful time to enjoy the beautiful landscapes. We reached Bac Ha under the dark.
The next day from Bac Ha to Ha Giang was very impressive. Terraces of rice, unique tribes life with some visits to remoted area delighted our days. We overnight in Ha Giang in a very basic hotel.
From Ha Giang we drive to Quan Ba heaven gate. We encounted many hill tribes who were on the way to work with very nice dresses. What I am wondering about this tribe is how hard they are to wear the dress to walk on the mountain trails.
We ended our tour in Hanoi after a day in Tuyen Quang and Son Duong district.
