we have stayed in stalis 5 times since 2005 and have booked again for this june 2008. the resort caters for all ages and all tastes the resturants and bars are varied but the greek taverna s are best, if you want mcdonalds you can walk 25 mins to malia! the greeks are very friendly and made us feel welcome. it was a bit hectic in july but calmer in june, september a bit quieter but may brings the rain!!and lots of it! book all your trips with the locals in any of the tour shops on the beach road not with the reps! the bus service is very good and cheap! DO NOT stay at the penelope apartments they are the worst in the resort check other review sites! iraklis was very basic but clean and the staff great the best self catering by far is the matemy beach apartments behind bar bliss on the beach road with 5* rooms with 3* prices book with thomas cook

My husband and I are a mature couple and we love Stalis but this was our first time at Koni Village.
We were a bit worried by the reviews stating the hill was steep but it is not a huge problem and they have cleverly put the 2 bars in the middle :);
The studio apartment we had was spotlessly clean and although quite basic it had everything you could need.
The entire complex is well run, the staff are terrific, especially Petros and Nikkos who would always great you with a big smile.
My only complaint would be the food at the bar cafe, it's not the best and you can get much better in Stalis itself for less money. There are pubs,bars and restaurants on the beach road to suit everyone!!
One word of advice, do not book trips with your rep! They rip you off totally. There are cheaper tours from the local agents and the bus system in Crete is really easy to use and soo cheap. We found the buses a great way to get around...try it!

booked with first choice on a late deal holiday so had no idea where we were going.
the apartment was fantastic had an upstairs bedroom and 2 sofa beds in living area which suprised us as we had only booked a studio.family owned the complex and where always willing to help.everything was clean.some of the apartments were on the main road which was busy.some were on main resort road over and surrounded by bars so could be noisy.we had to check out at 12 noon but transfer was not till 1.40 am we were given a room for 30euros for the rest of the day and night till we were picked up
fantastic apartment will go back next year.resort is great plent of places to eat and drink beach fantastic and prices were very good for eating and drinking.holiday was from 28/0/2006 to 04/08/2006

Last summer we stayed in a great appartment overlooking the sea in Stalis. We had a great time - Stalis has 1 beautiful beach and a few bars - but it's quite low-key so it suits us now we are getting old (I'm 29);.

The holiday and the rnr I was gaining was ruined at the last minute when we were told that we had to vacate our room at 10am on the morning BEFORE out flight was due to leave. Our flight was 3am the next morning.

This meant having to hide our luggage behind a bush for the majority of the day without security. Also we couldn't easily change clothes for the evening without getting naked in the street. We had no shower or even clean our teeth.

To cap ot all off - we had no where to sleep for the 4 hours or so we had before being picked up for our flight by the tour bus. We had to find a sheltered spot within the complex and sleep (badly); on the lilos we had bought earlier that week!!

We were bitten to death outside by the gnats and had a restless last few hours on the island.

Until this time we were having the best time. It was ruined in no small part by this dreadful policy.

Had we have known about the issue with vacating rooms so early we would have never booked the holiday in the first place!!!

i was very angry, but never got around to filling in my complaints form - I had calmed down when we hit the UK.

Anyway - a word of wisdom to all out there - make sure you have a roof over your head on your final night on holiday!!
