Alvor old town is still a maize of cobbled streets and alleyways with the original buildings. Its really quaint. The fishermans village at the harbourside is still active with the local fisherman bringing in their daily catch. there is amn enormous range of reasonably priced restaurant, something for everyone including Indian, Chinese and Italian. The night life is mid range with numerous Irish bars with live music or some quieter bars down the side streets, none of them being very big. No night clubs or discos. the beach is long, wide and sandy but is not ideal on windy days. We stayed at the Alvormar Apartments which are centrally located 5 minutes from the old town and about 20 minutes from the beach. The rooms are well equipped and it is excellent for a base for getting around,but not if you require the of trapings of extra facilities as it only has a small pool on site. The bus stop and taxi rank and just round the corner. The resort and especially the accommodation is best suited to couples or older singles, not for children unless you choose one of the larger hotels on the outskirts of the resort.
