Its been a while, but from memory Rainbow Sands is about a ten minute walk from the beach, and located off the main road (if you can call it that!); and opposite the Rainbow Sands Social club. Despite the description, this is a quiet location.
The room itself was basic and a little tired but clean and functional, which was everything we needed after the long drive from Byron Bay. After a shower and a change of clothes, we set about getting the 'gen' from Frank who seems to run the place for a freind about where to get a bite to eat.
Having taken Franks advice, we wandered across the road to the local Social club, where for about a dollar each we became instant members. We chose a table outside overlooking the bowling green as inside it was a little 'busy' with families enjoying a VB or ten and playing on the pokies.
Having eaten an extremely good 3 course meal (recomend the Moreton Bay Bug); we were shocked to discover that by around 9.30pm we were the only people left in the place! Obviously early to bed in this town.
I understand that Rainbow Beach is now leaving behind it's 'Summer Bay' image and growing at quite an alarming rate, so maybe we saw it just in time. Still, it's a beutiful place, and the locals are very freindly and helpful.
